EcoTourism in Goa - An abundance of birds can be found all over Goa and visitors will notice a few about town and in the various temple grounds. This large and diverse population can survive because of the varied habitat offered by the state, including shrubs, tracks and dense forests which are ideal for breeding.

Common varieties of birds seen in Goa include four different species of eagle, as well as other birds of prey such as Kites, Buzzards, Kestrels, and Ospreys. There are also five types of Pigeon, six types of Doves, five varieties of Cuckoo, six types of Kingfisher, and another six types of Woodpeckers.

It is not difficult to discover the varied bird life that Goa has to offer and an early morning or evening spent beside one of the rivers will reveal an amazing number of unusual species. Particular sites of interest include Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary on Chorao Island, the wetlands at Carambolim and Shiroda. For seabirds, the Morjim beach is the recommended place to go.
